Frequent flyers can earn points by joining Qatar Airways privilege club. The scheme is extremely popular amongst expats living and working in Qatar, as they can often earn points for flights which they receive for free There are a number of schemes in Qatar through which members can increase their points still further, often by using special credit cards.

Passengers who have used Qatar Airways but not joined the privilege club can still take advantage of flights made by submitting their ticket when joining. There is a time limit on this.

Qatar Airways Privilege Club Benefits

Members get several benefits, including:

• increased weight allowance
• use of the privilege club lounge
• ability to change points into flights. Qatar Airways also runs regular special offers where, for example, members can get flights for half the number of air miles as normal.
• option to use their points to upgrade their flights

Only a certain number of seats on any flight are allocated to privilege club members.

How to claim privilege club benefits

After joining, members can claim privilege club benefits by presenting their card when purchasing a ticket, by using their privilege club number when buying a flight online, by presenting their card when checking in or by taking old tickets to the Qatar Privilege Club Building in Doha, Qatar. (We'd tell you where it is, but Qatar Airways seem to change the location every 6 months!)

Families

Families of privilege club members can also earn club points. However, they will earn less points than the card holder. For example, the wife of a holder of a burgundy card will earn 50% of points, the wife of a silver card holder will earn 75% of points. To claim the air-miles, members of card holders family must be listed on the card holders account, with as many as 9 family members being nominated. At present, it is advisable for couples to hold individual cards to maximise the number of points.

Transferring air-miles

Air miles can be transferred between accounts. However, there is a charge for this.

An application form can be picked up at a Qatar Airways office. Alternatively, you can complete an application form online.

Partial payment

At the time of writing Qatar Airways customers have the option of buying a flight partly in air miles and partly in points.

Paying for other people with points

Privilege club members can also pay for other people to fly using their points. They can also buy air miles as a gift.

Air tax: When booking flights using Qatar Airways points, privilege club members will still have to pay airport tax.
