The Souq Waqif Art Center is located in the restaurant area of the Old Souq, opposite Le Gourmet and close to the Bandar Fish Market. The Center combines a selection of small & artistic shops with a number of exhibition rooms laid out around a long narrow courtyard. Outside the rooms lie suclptures and chests inlaid with turtle shell.

Exhitions have included The Islamic Arts exhibition, with displays of ancient calligraphy, some dating back centuries, and displays of carpets and phorography.

Shops include The Art Source, where paintings can be bought or framed. The Art Source is also an art consulting company and the sole GCC distributor for GCC De Concilio.

Soora, on the upper floor, displays photographs from around the Middle East and Arabia, while Heraf specialises in the arts and crafts of the region. Afkar books, meanwhile, sells a range of art and travel related books, and includes volumes on Islamic art, architecture and garden design.

Creators as well as admirers of art will also be well serviced by The Art Shop, which provides a wide selection of art tools and supplies.

Opening hours

Outside Ramadan the Art Center is open from 10-12.30 in the morning and from 7.30 - 12 in the evening.
