One late evening, on our way to drink coffee in Doha's Souq Waqif, we came upon this Arabic group playing the Arabic lute or oud.
The oud, known as the outi in Greece and the barbat in Iran, can be distinguished from the
guitar in that it has no frets. It also has a shorter neck, and its head bend backwards from the neck. You can see and buy ouds at the music shop in Souq Waqif - and even better, you can hear the oud played there by the music lovers who run the place.
