Adhan, or the Muslim call to prayer, is a sound which has reverberated, five times a day, round the cities of the Middle East for centuries. Sung right, it is a thing of beauty, whether or not you are a believer. Sung badly, and amplified by tinny sound speakers, it can be painful. This recording, taken at Souq Waqif, captured the Friday Adhan from the surrounding Mosques.
For both a transliteration and a translation of the Adhan, see The Muslim Call to Prayer. |
